History for UPDATE program
==========================
Version 2.11 (5/93)
============
Added a picklist to the "Define Installation Path" option. Now
simply highlight a filename that is located in the directory that
you wish to install the McAfee files and the path is
automatically inserted for you (new).
Change the search function to examine both the filename and the
extension for a match. This should help to eliminate the
mismatches for .BAT and .COM files with the same name of SCAN
instead of SCAN.EXE (new).
Added an addendum to the documentation outline the proposed
changes to the program, since the NETSCAN product will be
absorbed into the SCAN product.
Version 2.10a (11/92)
=============
Made minor changes to the file UPDATE.MAN. Changed it's focus to
be a McAfee products update utility rather than a installation
utility.
Version 2.10 (8/92)
============
Added an option called "Included drive(s) list" as an menu option
under the UPDATE menu item. This option allows the operator to
select the list of drives that UPDATE will scan (new).
Added an option called "Define installation path" which allows
the operator to bypass the searching procedure and install the
programs directly into a subdirectory on a harddisk (new).
Added an option called "Scan network drive(s)" that allows the
operator to tell UPDATE whether to scan only the local drive(s)
or local AND network drives (new).
Added an option called "Network drive(s) start at" which defines
the first logical drive to be considered a network drive. UPDATE
considers the specified drive and all above it to be network
drives (new).
Added matching command-line options for most of the menu items to
allow similar functionality from the command-line. These
commands are "/D:<lst>" (Included drive(s) list), "/ONNET" (Scan
network drive(s)), "/N:<drv>" (Network drive(s) start at). (new)
Added an option called "Copy if program exists" to the SETUP menu
that provides "intelligent updating" capabilities. By toggling
this option between "Both", "Yes" and "No" selected files will be
updated all the time, only if they exists on the harddisk or only
if they do not exists on the harddisk respectively (new).
Added a command line option called "/BOTH" that will update all
the files selected whether or not they already exists on the
searched harddisk (new).
Added a command line option called "/EXISTS" that will update all
the files selected only if the selected programs ALREADY exists
on the harddisk (new).
Added a command line option called "/NEW" that will update all
the files selected only if the selected programs DO NOT ALREADY
exists on the harddisk (new).
Version 2.02 (6/92)
============
Discovered a bug in the "Modify Colors..." option that prevented
user selected colors from being assigned to the default color
table (fixed).
Version 2.01 (6/92)
============
UPDATE would not read the UPDATE.INI file when command-line
options were also entered (fixed).
Cosmetic changes to the ABOUT window to accommodate more current
and future technical information about the environment (new).
In the ABOUT window the "DOS options" line which displayed the
command-line options entered, now shows the command-line EXACTLY
as it was entered by the operator not just in uppercase (fixed).
Added to the ABOUT window a line that tells whether a
configuration file was located on disk or in the path (new).
Version 2.00 (6/92)
============
Cosmetic changes in my selection of double lined borders to all
the pull-down menus (new).
Added an "About" information window to display the current
working environment for UPDATE (new).
Moved the "Help on Using Help" to a subordinate item on the HELP
menu (new).
Added a complete help index to the HELP menu options (new).
Added a command-line option "/PLAIN" and a corresponding menu
option to turn off the shadows behind the windows (new).
Expanded the HELP menu option with its own menu selections (new).
The UPDATE.INI file now also contains the color selections (new).
Added a complete color configuration feature that is accessed
through an option on the SETUP menu (new).
Modularized some of the internal structures (new).
Version 1.10 (4/92)
============
Changed the program default configuration filename from
UPDATE.CFG to UPDATE.INI (new).
Selecting the "Install all programs" options would select all the
programs even if they were not available (fixed).
Added shadows to all overlaying windows (new).
The mouse cursor would slow to a crawl after shelling to DOS and
using another mouse-based program (fixed).
UPDATE was not returning the operator to the startup directory
when the program finished (fixed).
Added option on the SETUP menu to add an interactive version of
the "/ALL" command-line switch command (new).
Added option on the SETUP menu to select between a 12hr and a
24hr time format (new).
Expanded the on-line help, added more cross-references (new).
Added option on the SETUP menu to update the NETSCAN program
(new).
Added feature that checks and enables or disables the menu items
on the SETUP menu for McAfee programs that are not in the same
drive and directory as the program itself (new).
Updated the command line options with the "/OLDDOS" command to be
used if the DOS version is less that version 3.3 (new).
Checked the CmdLine procedure to make sure that it is turning off
the autoread configuration capability when command-line options
are present (fixed).
Moved all confirmation prompts to display on the status line
(new).
Merged the "Update Window" to display on top of the scan window
instead of a clean screen by itself (new).
The default settings were being saved to the current
drive/directory rather than the startup drive/directory (fixed).
An especially nasty bug was found that caused the files in the
root directory of the searched drive to be skipped (fixed).
Resolved a problem that caused the program to lockup when run
from the root directory of any drive (fixed).
Version 1.00 (3/92)
============
Check CmdLine procedure, make sure that it is turning off the
autoread capability when command-line options are present
(fixed).
The ChkDrive procedure does not see to be eliminating invalid
drives, causing repeat reads of the current drive (fixed).
The "drive summary" window kept showing same drive information.
Could be a cascaded problem of ChkDrive (fixed).
The "replace confirmation code" was not implemented properly
(fixed).
The "file date checking" code was not showing the correct date
for the target file (fixed).
Error messages not implemented (fixed).
